Islamabad History

 Islamabad history

Islamabad is the capital city of Pakistan, it was not an ancient city like Lahore or Faisalabad, but rather a planned city that was established in the 1960s.

In the late 1950s, the government of Pakistan decided to move the capital city from Karachi to a more central location. The government began to plan the construction of a new capital city, which would be more secure and better able to accommodate the needs of the growing nation. The city of Islamabad was selected as the site for the new capital, and work on the city began in 1961.

The city was designed by a team of international architects and planners, led by the Greek architect Constantinos A. Doxiadis. The city was planned to be a modern, well-organized, and functional capital, with wide streets, well-landscaped gardens, and modern government buildings. The city was officially inaugurated in 1967 and since then it has grown to become the administrative and political center of Pakistan, home to the President, Prime Minister and other important government offices.

Islamabad is also known for its natural beauty, it is surrounded by Margalla Hills and the city has many parks and green spaces. The city has also many important institutions such as Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, Pakistan Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology, Pakistan Institute of Development Economics and Quaid-i-Azam University
